Onlay, Inlay, Porcelain Crowns and Direct Composite Resins

If you are suffering from the pain and discomfort of tooth decay, or want to get rid of old, worn silver fillings, inlay/onlay (indirect restoration) can be the answer. Inlays or onlays (which are more extensive and cover the cusps of the tooth) require the isolation of each tooth and removal of the old fillings under local anesthesia. An impression is made, and the inlay/onlay is created from porcelain, gold, or composite resin material.

An inlay/onlay looks exactly like the rest of the tooth, and is so durable that it doesn't need to be replaced for years. Also, composite white fillings can be placed on the tooth after removal of the worn metal silver fillings or tooth decay (direct restoration)

INLAYS, ONLAYS, PORCELAIN CROWNS

Our office is proud to have acquired the newest, most innovative and latest technology on restoring teeth in one single visit: CEREC CAD/CAM (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) software.

CEREC is a reliable way of restoring teeth in the most aesthetically and functional way possible using 3D pictures and CAD/CAM software.

The tooth is prepared either for a crown, onlay or inlay and the preparation is photographed by using a digital camera. A digital model is fabricated using the computer; and the image is refined using the 3D CAD software. The future restoration is designed by the dentist with the help of the software from start to finish. When the design phase is complete, the information is sent wirelessly to the milling unit, which mills the actual restoration from a solid block of porcelain material using diamond burs in minutes. The final restoration is chemically bonded to your tooth. This way we can save as much healthy tooth structure as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that actually strengthens your tooth.

Advantages are:
-One single visit: Only one appointment is needed for esthetic restorations as opposed to two or more trips for a traditional crown. No need for conventional impressions and temporary restorations.
-Conservation of more tooth structure: Most times a partial coverage restoration (inlay/onlay) can be fabricated instead of a full crown.
-Stronger restoration: Milled porcelain is stronger than hand layered and pressed ceramics.
-Aesthetics: No more silver fillings.
