About Us

Prosthodontic Dentistry of South Florida has been providing treatment in all procedures related to maxillofacial prosthetic care for over 33 years. Our office is the ONLY South Florida PRIVATE facility equipped to treat the head and neck disabled, including cosmetic restoration and restoration of function of the facial and maxillary areas, as well as protection of tissues. Our staff fully understands the importance of the psychological and physiological needs of maxillofacial patients. Our doctors, Dr. Bernard Segall and Dr. Bruno Sharp, have the specialized training and experience necessary to handle all cases that need maxillofacial prosthetic treatment.

Objectives

There are five general objectives of maxillofacial prosthetics:

  1. Restoration of aesthetically pleasing or cosmetic appearance of the patient, such as replacement of nose or restoration of facial contour with a maxillary orburator.

  1. Restoration of function, as in a cleft palate deformity.

  1. Protection of tissues with, for example, a radium protective shield or cranial implant.

  1. Promulgation of therapeutic or healing effect, such as with a splint or radium needle carrier.

  1. Psychological therapy.

The Doctors

Dr. Bernard Segall has been practicing in the Miami area for more than 30 years. During this time, he was a Chief of Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and Head of Prosthodontics at Mt. Sinai Hospital and a full professor of prosthodontics at Nova Southeastern Dental College. He is on the staff of Jackson Memorial Hospital, Mont Sinai Hospital, and the Sylvester Cancer Center. Dr. Segall received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1968. From 1968 to 1970, he attended the University’s Graduate Prosthodontic program, and from 1970 to 1971 he had his residency in maxillofacial prosthodontics at Roswell Park Hospital in Buffalo, New York. Dr. Segall is a renowned international lecturer in his field of dentistry and has given many conferences in the United States and abroad.

Dr. Bruno Sharp received his dental degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1992. He received his graduate degree in Prosthodontics from the University of Florida in 1997. He also holds a dental degree from the National University in Brazil. Since 1997, Dr. Sharp has practiced prosthodontics in Miami. He is a national and international lecturer with affiliation to Jackson Memorial Hospital, Sylvester Cancer Center, and Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Sharp is an active member of the Florida Prosthodontic Association, The American College of Prosthodontics and International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology.
