Maxillofacial

Our doctors, Dr. Bernard Segall and Dr. Bruno Sharp, have the specialized training and experience necessary to handle all cases that need maxillofacial prosthetic treatment.

Prosthodontic Dentistry of South Florida has been providing treatment in all procedures related to maxillofacial prosthetic care for over 33 years. Our office is the ONLY South Florida PRIVATE facility equipped to treat the head and neck disabled, including cosmetic restoration and restoration of function of the facial and maxillary areas, as well as protection of tissues. Our staff fully understands the importance of the psychological and physiological needs of maxillofacial patients.

Objectives

There are five general objectives of maxillofacial prosthetics:

  • Restoration of aesthetically pleasing or cosmetic appearance of the patient, such as restoration of facial contour with a maxillary orburator.
  • Restoration of function, as in a cleft palate deformity.
  • Protection of tissues with, for example, a radium protective shield or cranial implant.
  • Promulgation of therapeutic or healing effect, such as with a splint or radium needle carrier.
  • Psychological therapy.
