WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Permanent solution for tooth loss
Dental Implants have an overall success rate of about 95% or greater, and consist of a lifetime treatment.
With the help of dental implants, we can fully remedy toothlessness and thus strongly improve chewing and speaking abilities as well as restore a beautiful smile. Dental Implants can also serve as carriers of a fixed dental bridge or denture.
Implants are amazingly natural-looking replacements that feel as strong and comfortable as your own teeth. As well as restoring your normal appearance, dental implants make eating and speaking much easier than dentures.
Dental implants are anchored permanently into the jaw, replacing the tooth’s own root – just like natural teeth. The implant itself is a titanium post inserted into the gum. Left in place for two to eight months, the bone around the implant gradually grows and bonds with the implant, holding it securely in place.
Once, in position, an implant can hold a single replacement tooth, a bridge or a denture with several replacement teeth. And the real benefit is that they are virtually indistinguishable from your own teeth, which means you can enjoy an attractive and natural looking smile once more.
The Dental Implants Procedure
The dental implants team usually includes either prosthodontics or an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who implants the posts into the patient’s mouth and a prosthodontist or general dentist who designs and fits the replacement teeth or permanent bridge. Dr. Bruno Sharp will implant, design and fit the replacement teeth or do restorative work on faulty crowns all in one office.
At the first appointment, we use an X-ray to determine if the jaw bone is adequate to hold the titanium posts. Models of the mouth are often made using a soft, pliable plastic compound. These models show where the gaps are located and provide measurements for a replacement tooth or a bridge. Treatment with dental implants is complicated and takes meticulous planning for best results. Today, the implants being placed often only require one surgical procedure using a local anesthetic and sedative.
Is Old Age a Problem?
Occasionally, older patients express concern that their age may prevent them from enjoying the benefits of dental implants. However, health is more of a determining factor than age. If you’re healthy enough to have a tooth extracted, you’re probably healthy enough to receive dental implants. Certain chronic diseases may contraindicate dental implant treatment. The dentist will determine if you are a candidate for dental implants after a careful evaluation of your dental and health history.
How Will Dental Implants Affect My Life?
Dental implant-supported replacement teeth look, feel and function like natural teeth. This means that you can eat and drink whatever you choose. But most importantly, dental implants improve the quality of life in a very concrete way. People who have felt embarrassed and worried because their tooth problems are often overwhelmed by what new permanent teeth can do for their self-esteem.

What is Bone Grafting?
Over a period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies is reabsorbed. This often leaves a condition in which there are poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for placement of dental implants. In these situations, most patients are not candidates for placement of dental implants.
With bone grafting, we now have the opportunity to not only replace bone where it is missing but also the ability to promote new bone growth in that location! This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, but it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and esthetic appearance.
Sinus lift are air-filled cavities that lie close to the upper back teeth. Sometimes there isn’t enough upper jaw bone for dental implants due to maxillary sinus enlargement (pneumatization) or jaw bone resorption following tooth loss. Sinus augmentation (sinus lift) is a surgical procedure that predictably elevates the floor of the sinus to create adequate space for graft materials and implants.
A sinus lift is a surgical procedure that lifts the floor of the sinus to create adequate space for graft materials and implants. There are two different techniques that can be used, and Dr. Bruno Sharp will discuss the relevant approach with you. Depending on the approach, Dr. Sharp may recommend using local or general anesthesia.
We make every effort to keep dental care affordable. It should be noted that dental insurance is designed to more easily manage the costs of dental care by paying only a portion or percentage of the bill. We coordinate traditional insurance with treatment, when possible, and help our patients maximize any insurance benefits they have. Our philosophy of treating you using only our professional judgment and experience is not compatible with the restrictive nature of managed care plans, such as HMO’s. Accordingly, our office is not a contracted provider with an HMO.
We want to help our patients get the dental work they need and have provided a variety of payment options. We will work with you to maximize any insurance benefits you have or to work out how to get the treatment within your budget. We accept MasterCard, VISA, American Express, and Discover!
We also accept cash, checks, and approved financing.
